This Read Me document provides late-breaking and important news about the AppleCD 300 Plus drive and the software for it.
VIEWING LARGE PHOTO CD IMAGES
Some programs, such as TeachText, may have difficulty opening large (high-resolution) image files on a Photo CD. To view these images, you can change the application program that opens the Photo CD images and use a program designed to handle larger files. See the manual that came with the CD-ROM drive for more information. You can also change the amount of memory a program uses. See the manuals that came with your computer for more information on managing memory.
DISPLAYING COLOR ICONS FOR IMAGES ON PHOTO CDS
When your computer is low on memory, it may have problems displaying color icons for the images on a Photo CD. Although some icons may appear as black-and-white document icons, the Photo CD images themselves are not affected. To display color icons, quit all open programs, restart your computer, and reopen the Photos folder on your Photo CD. SETTING SOUND OPTIONS FOR SOME MACINTOSH COMPUTERS
Some Macintosh computers (such as the Macintosh Quadra 660AV and 840AV) have special sound recording options. If you don't hear any sound when you play an audio CD or an audio track on a CD-ROM disc, you may have the sound options set incorrectly. To change the options, open the Sound control panel, choose Sound In from the pop-up menu at the top of the panel, and then select the Built-In icon for the audio source. Click the Options button, select Internal CD, make sure the Playthrough box is checked, and click OK. See the manuals that came with your computer for more information.
ADJUSTING THE VOLUME FOR SOME MACINTOSH COMPUTERS
Some Macintosh computers allow you to increase or decrease the volume of sound through the Sound control panel, as well as through the volume control in your audio CD software. The manuals that came with your computer describe the Sound control panel if your computer has one. The manual that came with your CD-ROM drive describes the audio CD software.
DISPLAYING THE TOTAL PLAYING TIME FOR CUSTOMIZED PLAY LISTS IN
APPLECD AUDIO PLAYER
If the total playing time of your customized Play List for an audio CD is longer than 99 minutes and 59 seconds, the Time display in the AppleCD Audio Player shows 99.99. (The Time display can't display times of more than 2 digits and 2 decimal points.)
WORKING WITH PHOTO CDS IN SYSTEM 6
If you have System 6 and want to view Photo CDs, turn MultiFinder on before you insert a Photo CD into your CD-ROM drive. If you are in the Finder, your computer may not have enough memory to start up the Photo CD. (See manuals that came with your computer for instructions on how to turn MultiFinder on.) Once you turn MultiFinder on, place the Photo CD in the tray of the CD-ROM drive and push the tray in (or press the Open/Close button) to close the tray of the CD-ROM drive. In a few moments, the Photo CD disc icon appears; you can now view images on the Photo CD.
USING THE SLIDE SHOW VIEWER IN SYSTEM 6
If you view photographic images in a sequence using the Slide Show Viewer and you want to look at images from more than one Photo CD, do not start up the Slide Show Viewer from the Photo CD. Copy the Slide Show Viewer onto your hard disk, and use that copy to view photos. If you start up the Slide Show Viewer from the Photo CD, you will experience problems when you insert the next Photo CD.
EJECTING CD-ROM DISCS IN AT EASE
If you are using At Ease (an alternative to the usual Macintosh desktop) and you want to eject a CD-ROM disc, make sure you eject the disc before you shut down your computer. The Open/Close button of your CD-ROM drive does not work when the computer is shut down.
To eject a disc while using At Ease: Choose the Eject command from the Special Menu. Remove the disc and close the tray by pushing it in or pressing the Open/Close button.
WARNING: If you shut down your computer before you eject a disc while you are using At Ease, the tray of the CD-ROM drive opens and then closes immediately. If you attempt to remove the disc as the tray opens or closes, you may damage the disc or the tray of the CD-ROM drive. (To remove a disc from the CD-ROM drive after you have shut down your computer: Start up your computer, then choose the Eject command from the Special Menu. Remove the disc and close the tray by pushing it in or pressing the Open/Close button. Then you can shut down your computer again.)
